RUQYAH IN THE QUR\u2019\u0100N & SUNNAH<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\u2018Ruqyah\u2019 is the practice of treating illnesses through Qur\u2019\u0101nic \u0101y\u0101t and invocations as
\nprescribed by the Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 .It provides a cure for evil eye, magic and
\nphysical ailments.
\nThe Qur\u2019\u0101n offers perfect solace to a believer – both spirtually and physically. Ruqyah
\nshould therefore play an essential role in our lives. Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647 says: \u201cAnd say: The truth
\nhas come, and falsehood has vanished. Surely falsehood is ever bound to vanish by its
\nvery nature. And We send down in the Qur\u2019\u0101n that which is a cure and a mercy for
\nthe believers.\u201d (17:81-2)
\nAs well providing a cure, Ruqyah is an excellent way for the believers to build their
\nIm\u0101n and reaffirm their tawh\u012bd for Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647 .Indeed seeking treatment through the
\nQur\u2019\u0101n demonstrates complete belief in the Book of Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647.
\nThe Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 said: \u201cMake good use of the two cures: honey and the
\nQur\u2019\u0101n.\u201d (Ibn M\u0101jah)
\n\u2018\u0100\u2019ishah \u001a said: \u201cWhen the Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 was ill, Jibr\u012bl \u0611 performed Ruqyah
\non him.\u201d (Muslim)
\nIn another hadith, \u2018\u0100\u2019ishah \u001a informs us that the Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 entered upon
\nher and found a woman treating her with Ruqyah (through other than the words of
\nAllah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647 .(He \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 said: \u201cTreat her with the book of Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647) \u201c.Ibn Hibb\u0101n) She also said:
\n\u201cThe Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 used to command me to perform Ruqyah from the evil
\neye.\u201d (Muslim)
\nOnce the Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 saw a girl whose face had changed colour in the
\nhouse of Umm Salamah, so he \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 said: \u201cSeek Ruqyah for her, because she has
\nbeen affected by the evil eye.\u201d (Bukh\u0101r\u012b)
\n\u2018\u0100\u2019ishah \u001a narrated that whenever the Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 would become sick, he
\nwould recite [the last 3 S\u016brahs of the Qur\u2019\u0101n] and then blow over his body. She says:
\n\u201cDuring his last illness from which he passed away, the Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 used to
\nblow over himself. But when his sickness intensified, I used to (recite and then) blow
\nover him using his own hands because of their blessings.\u201d (Bukh\u0101r\u012b)
\nIn another had\u012bth, she\u00a0 mentions that whenever anyone from his family would
\nbecome ill, he \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 would blow over them with these three S\u016brahs. (Muslim)<\/p>\n

\u2018The Qur\u2019\u0101n is the complete healing for all mental, spiritual and physical diseases; all<\/em>
\nthe diseases of this world and the Hereafter. But not everyone is guided to use it for<\/em>
\nthe purpose of healing. If the sick person uses the Qur\u2019\u0101n for healing in the proper<\/em>
\nway, and applies it to his disease with sincerity, faith, complete acceptance and firm<\/em>
\nconviction, fulfilling all its conditions, then no disease can resist it.\u2019 (Ibn al-Qayyim )<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

METHOD OF RUQYAH<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Conditions for Ruqyah to be successful :<\/em><\/h4>\n

Before Ruqyah<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1- Make wudh\u016b, offer two rak\u2018ats and make sincere du\u2018\u0101\u2019. Du\u2018\u0101\u2019, especially in tahajjud,
\nbrings great reprieve and assistance from Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647.
\n2- Make abundant and sincere istighf\u0101r (seeking forgiveness from Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647 ,(and stay
\naway from sins. One should restore people\u2019s rights if they have wronged anyone or
\ntaken anything unjustly.
\n3- Give sadaqah as it wards off calamity (Bayhaq\u012b). The Messenger of Allah \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 said:
\n\u201cTreat your sick by giving Sadaqah.\u201d (Bayhaq\u012b)
\n4- Remove animate pictures from the home. Any amulets (ta\u2019w\u012bdh) which contain
\nillegible text or invokes upon other than Allah should also be taken out and disposed
\nof in a river.
\n5- Remain in a state of wudh\u016b through the day and also sleep with wudh\u016b.<\/p>\n

During Ruqyah<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1- Begin Ruqyah by sending Salaw\u0101t (salutations) upon the Prophet \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 .Recite the
\nRuqyah (see p.4 and p.5) loudly, clearly and with concentration, at least 3 or 7 times.
\n2- One may recite directly into the hands, blowing into them and rubbing them over
\nthe body. One can also recite whilst placing the hands over the part of the body that
\nis in pain.
\n3- One may recite and blow on water. Keep the mouth close to the water, breathe into
\nit and repeatedly blow over it. This can be used for drinking and bathing (see p.11).
\n4- Olive oil and other Sunnah medicines can be recited upon and applied to the body.
\nWhen reciting on others, place the hand on the forehead of the affected person
\n(mahram only), or on the part of the body in pain, recite and blow.
\n5- If one cannot recite, then Ruqyah can be listened to. This should be done with full
\nconcentration. One should listen carefully and ensure that they do not fall asleep .<\/p>\n

Evil eye comes from a resentful and malevolent envy that is manifested by casting a
\ngaze, stare or look that is envious and ill-wishing. An envier causes harm or misfortune
\nto an unsuspecting person through his eyes, without needing his hands or tongue. The
\nintensity of the effect differs according to the weakness of the victim and the power of
\nthe envier\u2019s jealousy, hatred and anger.<\/div>\n

\nIbn al-Qayyim \ue00e wrote: \u2018The evil eye is an arrow, shot by the one who is jealous,
\nhitting (the victim) sometimes and missing it sometimes. So if the victim is uncovered
\nand without the protection (of the adhk\u0101r), then he definitely will be affected by it.
\nBut if the victim is taking precaution (through the adhk\u0101r), then it will not affect him;
\nrather it may happen that this arrow is returned back to the envier.\u2019
\n2- Say M\u0101shaAllah on one\u2019s own blessings and possessions. Seek blessings from

How to Treat the Evil Eye<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Since young children are unable to recite Ruqyah, parents should always recite \u0100yah
\nal-Kurs\u012b and the last 3 S\u016brahs of the Qur\u2019\u0101n and blow on them. Children are more
\nvulnerable to the evil eye. It\u2019s important therefore to teach them these \u0101y\u0101t as soon
\nas possible and instruct them to recite and blow on themselves. Furthermore the

\nThe evil eye is very common. Imam Ahmad said: \u2018Very rarely will a house be found
\nwithout anyone being affected by the evil eye or jealousy.\u2019 The method of treatment
\nis to get the used water of the one who inflicted the evil eye, and pour it over the
\nvictim. However, in many circumstances, this is difficult to do. Therefore, one should
\npray Ruqyah on water (see p.4 and 5), especially the last 3 S\u016brahs of the Qur\u2019\u0101n and
\nbathe with it daily for 10-20 days until the symptoms disappear.<\/h6>\n

3- Take a Ruqyah bath with Sidr water. Grind seven green Sidr leaves (lote tree leaves)

\nwho quotes Wahb ibn Munabbih as having mentioned this. This process can be
\nrepeated daily until one is cured by the will of Allah \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647.<\/div>\n
4-Drink Senna water. Senna should be boiled in water and left to cool. Honey can be
\nadded to this mixture. Ruqyah should be recited on this mixture and then drunk on
\nan empty stomach. This can be done for seven days.<\/div>\n
5- Have cupping (hij\u0101mah) done, especially on parts of the body that are in pain. This
\ncan be repeated as necessary.<\/div>\n
6- Rub oil on the head and the body. Ruqyah can be recited over olive oil which can be
\nrubbed over the body, especially parts that are in pain. Applying oil on the head (a
\nSunnah of the Prophet \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 (is extremely effective. Drinking a spoon of olive oil daily

5- Should illnesses be treated with Ruqyah only?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Magic and evil eye can often cause physical illnesses. These need to be treated
\nmedically alongside the Ruqyah. Along with conventional medicine, one should adopt
\na healthy lifestyle and implement the sunnah prescription of eating less but more
\nwholesome foods. Our consumption and the means to obtain it should also be hal\u0101l.
\nAfter Ruqyah, one may feel weak. Eating foods which are high in energy, including
\nTalb\u012bnah (barley porridge) is therefore helpful.<\/p>\n

6- The person afflicted refuses to recite or listen to the Ruqyah.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

One who does not want to listen to Ruqyah should be compelled as the shayt\u0101n is
\nstopping them from seeking treatment. If it\u2019s still difficult, then one can recite on their
\nbehalf and blow on water and oil. The afflicted person should be made to drink and
\nuse these.<\/p>\n

7- How does one know if they\u2019re afflicted with evil eye, etc?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The best gauge for knowing whether one is afflicted is the Qur\u2019\u0101n. Nothing can hide
\nfrom the powerful and supreme words of the Almighty \u062c\u0644 \u062c\u0644\u0627\u0644\u0647.
\nOne may feel pain while reciting or listening to Ruqyah. One may also feel restless or
\nscared. Other symptoms may include itching, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, sweating, an
\nurge to urinate or feeling sleepy. If these symptoms arise, continue reciting or listening
\nto Ruqyah, especially the \u0101y\u0101t that exacerbate these symptoms.<\/p>\n

8- Are there specific \u0101y\u0101t in the Qur\u2019\u0101n that have more impact?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Qur\u2019\u0101n has many \u0101y\u0101t of Ruqyah. The strongest are S\u016brah al-F\u0101tihah, \u0100yah al-Kurs\u012b
\nand the last 3 S\u016brahs of the Qur\u2019\u0101n. Listen to these for hours if possible. If certain \u0101y\u0101t
\nelicit greater symptoms, then these should be repeated at least 7 times if possible.
\nOne can also add other verses which mention the Greatness and the Oneness of Allah

The morning and evening adhk\u0101r (Sunnah remembrances after Fajr and \u2018Asr) are
\nthe best means of safeguarding oneself from evil eye, magic and other afflictions. If
\nsomeone is already afflicted, then these adhkar should also be read along with the
\nRuqyah treatment.
\nThe morning and evening adhk\u0101r are highly important and should never be abandoned.
\nOne who is cured by Ruqyah will always remain exposed to evil afflictions if they
\nneglect these adhkar.<\/p>\n

10- Why should one blow after reciting Ruqyah?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Blowing with the saliva is an important part of the Ruqyah. This physical element should
