  1. Zakat al-Maal:
    • Definition: Zakat al-Maal is related to the saved money, wealth, or property that a person possesses.
    • Payment Responsibility: It is the obligation of the individual who meets the prescribed nisab (minimum amount on which zakat is due).
    • Timing: Zakat al-Maal is paid when the savings reach the prescribed value (nisab), which is equal to 20 mithqals of gold or 200 dirhams of silver.
    • Purpose: It aims to purify wealth, help the needy, and promote social justice.
    • Amount: The standard amount is 2.5% of one’s total wealth.
  2. Zakat al-Fitr:
    • Definition: Zakat al-Fitr is a specific form of charity paid by the head of the household on behalf of family members.
    • Payment Responsibility: It is obligatory for every Muslim who has food for at least one day and their family members.
    • Timing: Zakat al-Fitr is paid on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.
    • Purpose: It ensures that everyone can partake in the joy of Eid by providing food to the less fortunate.
    • Amount: There is no fixed nisab for zakat al-Fitr. It is usually given in the form of two qadahs (an old measure) of rice, wheat, or other staple food.

In summary, zakat al-Maal focuses on accumulated wealth, while zakat al-Fitr emphasizes providing immediate assistance to those in need during Ramadan. Both forms of zakat play essential roles in promoting social welfare and compassion within the Muslim community.

Remember that fulfilling these obligations is not only a religious duty but also a means of purifying one’s wealth and fostering empathy toward others. 🌟
