Learn Arabic through the tree roots strategy

If you study Arabic Language in your own and you would like to learn how to increase your Arabic  vocabulary this is the right topic for you to read And follow the steps :

This study called The Tree roots strategy of Learning Arabic vocabularies for non native speakers , which help new students of Arabic Language to add and increase their own vocabularies of Arabic when they are planning to learn Arabic by them selves .,

Studies have proven that reading texts and reading in general are the factory for generating vocabulary, and whoever wants to develop his linguistic output in understanding and production should read, then read, and then read. Therefore, reading should be a continuous daily habit that does not stop from your program, such as reading newspapers, magazines, books, and literary works, such as novels, short stories, plays, and articles of all kinds, and do not neglect electronic readings.رضا يايسي رئيس منتدى جذور لموقع ROOTS | منتدى جذور الثقافة الجزائرية للحرف

In this way, the vocabulary will be enhanced by seeing the vocabulary in different real contexts, not to mention the development of general knowledge.

Another positive aspect of reading is the development of fluency in it, and the refinement of the accuracy or linguistic integrity of the learner.

2- Use the Arabic dictionary

The dictionary has many benefits in learning and acquiring Arabic. Look for a dictionary that contains modern, easy and useful explanations, so that it makes your reading in it enjoyable and encouraging, especially those that present roots, weights and words in useful and easy sentences.

3- Link the word to its root and its weight

Arabic is characterized as an etymological language unlike European languages, which are often affixed. We learned that each weight has its meanings and connotations whose meanings can be predicted. Ten are well-known, and five are rarely used.

4 – Develop guessing skills from context, root and weight

The able teacher is the one who enables his students to learn Arabic acquisition strategies that are based on a large number of them, perhaps the most prominent of which is to accustom him to using the tribal and dimensional context in an attempt to discover the meanings of new vocabulary, and the same is the case with the weight of the word or the verb, as Ibn Faris said in the Dictionary of Language Standards that each Words that belong to one root have part of the meaning of the root, so the word is transferred from one weight to another that may indicate its meaning, as is the case in the second, third, fourth, fifth and tenth weights within the ten weights system in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.

5- Link the word with its semantic context: preposition, syndrome, etc

Vocabulary, as previously said, represents the backbone and cornerstone of the acquisition of any foreign language at all. The process of acquiring real vocabulary depends on the mechanism or philosophy in which the student learns vocabulary. Make the learner for each item a kind of tabulation that helps him to do so, including:

  •   New word
  •   Root
  •   Type: Noun / Verb / Letter
  •   plural: singular
  •   synonyms
  •   reversible
  •  syndromes
  • other notes

6 – Connect them with their synonyms or opposites
One of the strategies that help in possessing vocabulary, as mentioned above, is linking the vocabulary with its synonyms and opposites, which help to form the student’s linguistic fluency and accuracy.

An example of this is what I saw in a learner’s record when studying the word “effort,” where he linked it to ability, ability, mastery, strength, and determination, as well as the case with its opposites, including: exhaustion, fatigue, negligence, laziness, and helplessness. Is it possible to imagine the size of the linguistic benefit of studying all these words with his teacher or language partner and their repercussions on his linguistic competence.

7- Record it in paper or electronic cards

Students are types: among them the organizers and the anarchists, and there is no doubt that whoever has a system in his time and records his notes, dividing them, scheduling and complexing them at the level of vocabulary, grammar, and notes about different skills and culture, this will facilitate the process of acquiring them, and I do not forget that I taught a semester of real, authentic materials without Relying on a specific book, and at the end of the chapter, one of my students – may God reward her with all the best – gave me a huge volume, and when I asked her what is this? She said this is all the material that we studied with you with all your observations and explanation in an orderly, detailed and tabular manner, to the extent that this book was the origin of one of my books on teaching Arabic to non-native speakers at the beginner level.

There have been many methods of recording vocabulary and grammar on computers, websites and tablets so that they remain available to the learner in writing and by voice at any time he wants, and the teacher can view them and know what the learner is doing from the activities.

8 – Draw and represent the words

One of the famous methods in the study of vocabulary in particular is to find a relationship between the vocabulary and something else such as an image, a sound or something. To remember it and enable him to summon it whenever the need arises, and that representing it for himself or for his roommate or for his classmates will support the chances of remembering it and summoning it when the need arises to use it.

9 – Check it regularly with a colleague

The cornerstone of possessing vocabulary is always reviewing it, especially when it becomes a lot with the passage of days, and as the linguists mention, the learner needs to be exposed to the vocabulary between 6 to 13 times in order to be able to own it and be able to recall it when the need arises, so the learner must possess An organized plan for how to review new and old words, and one of those effective methods is to review it with a colleague in addition to what was mentioned before.

10 – Do it 6 to 13 times

Revision does not mean possessing vocabulary at all, and one of the most important characteristics of a smart learner is that he does not feel shy about speaking and making mistakes in front of others. Therefore, the learner should take advantage of every opportunity in front of the native speakers in order to practice the new vocabulary that he uses and review it by himself and with his colleagues so that it reaches between 6 – 13 times.
