How to Perform Eid Salah – Step by Step

Preparing for Eid Salah:

Perform Eid Salah

  1. Bathe and Dress Well:
    • Rise early on the morning of Eid and bathe yourself.
    • Brush your teeth, wash your body, and put on perfume.
    • Wear your finest clothes, preferably new or special occasion attire.
  2. Eat Dates:
    • Before heading to the Eid ul-Fitr prayer, eat an odd number of dates.
    • However, for Eid ul-Adha, wait until after the prayer to break your fast.
  3. Recite the Takbir:
    • As you make your way to the prayer location, recite the distinct Takbir for Eid:
      • “Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, La ilaha illallah, Wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd.”
      • This means “Allah is the greatest, there is no god but Allah. And Allah is the greatest, to Allah belongs all praise.”

The First Rak’ah:

  1. Set Your Intention:
    • Internally, intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha (2 rak’ahs) for Allah.
  2. Follow the Imam:
    • Give the opening Takbeer (“Allahu Akbar”) with the imam.
    • Say the opening supplication quietly to yourself.
  3. Perform the Takbirs:
    • Give 3 more Takbirs with the imam, raising your hands for each.
    • Listen to the imam recite Surah al-Fatihah and an additional Surah.

The Second Rak’ah:

  1. Continue Listening:
    • In the second rak’ah, listen to the imam recite Surah al-Fatihah and another Surah.
    • Recite the Takbirs and perform the Tashahhud.
  2. Complete 2 More Sujuds:
    • Finish the prayer by performing 2 more prostrations (Sujuds).

After Eid Salah:

  1. Listen to the Khutbah:
    • Pay attention to the sermon (Khutbah) delivered by the imam.
  2. Greet Your Family and Friends:
    • After the prayer, greet your loved ones and fellow worshippers.
  3. Take a Different Route Home:
    • Consider taking an alternate path back home after the second rak’ah.

Remember, Eid Salah is a special prayer performed twice a year—once at the end of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) and again during Eid al-Adha. May your Eid be blessed! 🌙🕌🌟
